P6 schedule, Gantt and the scheduler
Load the P6 schedule, read the Gantt and critical path, update progress and publish updates.
Load a P6 schedule
- Export the schedule from P6 as .xer (or .csv).
- Open Upload data, choose 'Schedule' and the file, press Upload.
- Trade, area, crane and contractor come from the P6 activity codes. Rows with no or unknown trade code are skipped and listed.
- Each upload is kept. The next one is compared with it, and any finish that moved later goes to the delay log as a slip.
Read the Gantt
- Open Schedule. A trade lead opens it on their own trade; pick 'All' under Trade to see the whole job.
- Ready views across the top: Whole schedule, Critical path, Critical path by week, 3-week look-ahead, Open work by month, By trade, By area.
- Group by, Show and Timescale change the view. Red bars are the critical path (total float 0 or less).
- The tiles show the data date, project finish, finish against baseline and critical activities.
- Schedule check runs quality checks in the spirit of the DCMA 14-point assessment.
Update progress on your trade
- Find the activity on the Schedule page and use Update progress.
- You can only update activities on your own trade (a superintendent: on the boards they cover).
Run, baseline and publish
- Every change re-runs the schedule. Durations are workdays on the project calendar.
- Add activities, ties (predecessors and successors), non-work days and the work calendar on the Schedule page.
- Move the data date and re-run when you update. Set the current dates as the baseline to measure against.
- Publish this update keeps a snapshot so any finish that moved goes to the delay log.
- Download XER or CSV to send the schedule back to P6.
